Red hot professors

Ratemyprofessors.com ranks three St. John's teachers among the Top 50 in the nation.

Three St. John's professors were included in a list of the Top 50 professors on RateMyProfessors.com, a popular Web site where college students can comment on their professors. This is the first year that RateMyProfessors has compiled such a list. According to a RateMyProfessors press release, the results were gathered from more than 1 million ratings of professors posted by more than 7.

College media Web site takes a new direction

If you want to find out the latest news from college campuses around the country, UWIRE provides a one stop shop for college news junkies. Aggregating articles from hundreds of college newspapers, UWIRE recently announced an expansion of its services and a new direction for its website, UWIRE.

Prof. elected to scientific organization

The Acoustical Society of America recently elected Dr. Fredericka Bell-Berti, the chair of the Department of Speech, Communication Sciences, and Theatre, as one of the members of its Executive Council. Dr. Bell-Berti will serve a three-year term on the 12-year council.

History professor to study Islam abroad

Assistant Professor of History, Dr. Nerina Rustomji, has received a fellowship grant from American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). This $30,000 grant will help her to research her project on the concept of "houri" in Islam, and its contemporary representation.

President's Dinner to be held at end of Oct.

St. John's will be holding its Tenth Annual President's Dinner in the Waldorf-Astoria hotel on Thursday, October 25. The black tie event, which will be hosted by University President Rev. Donald Harrington, C.M., will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.

Professor launches program for bilingual patients

Speech-Language Pathology and a licensed speech-language pathologist, along with colleagues, launched the first program for Spanish-English bilingual aphasia patients last month at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Manhattan. Aphasia consists of a loss of communicative skills, along with paralysis or diminished physical capabilities after suffering a stroke.

ROTC loses one of its finest

ROTC Cadet Commander Brian N. Delaplane died suddenly on October 9 on the St. John's Queens campus. According to his obituary in the Colorado Springs Gazette, Delaplane died as a result of a pulmonary embolism. "Our whole family here at St. John's mourns his loss," said Steven Papamarcos, dean of the Peter J.
